Lisa Horwitz, MSN, CRNP

Health Advocacy Coach & Trauma Recovery Practitioner

I’m Lisa (she/her)

In clinical practice as a nurse practitioner, I specialized in reproductive and sexual health and provided care to countless trauma survivors; as an educator, I’ve trained hundreds of health care providers in the basics of trauma-informed care.

I’ve witnessed how health care, even with best intentions, can profoundly harm when a person isn’t recognized for the totality of their experience.

And I know this personally, through over 20 years of advocating for my son during doctor visits, tests, examinations, and emergency room rushes as he struggled with a long-undiagnosed illness. I also intimately know the shock and overwhelm of PTSD when I suddenly lost a loved one to that very diagnosis.

After this loss, I realized that we cannot simply navigate around trauma; we need to give our traumatized selves the care we so desperately need.

I sought a deeper understanding of how trauma originates and heals, becoming trained in therapeutic approaches that allow our nervous systems to move out of their holding patterns.

It is my passion and purpose to create opportunity for individuals to have a newfound life experience: to shift from feeling stuck or hopeless to finding real healing, peace, and joy.

We enact change in our lives only when we are seen and held with unconditional acceptance.

Here’s what you can expect from me:

  • Safety Somatics does not require any physical touch, and working with trauma does not require disclosing personal details or reliving the past. Sessions are exploratory in that you are in the driver’s seat to inquire within.

  • Consent  My job is to ask questions designed to help you know yourself better, but informed consent comes first. I’ll always honor your comfort level when it comes to discussing sensitive topics, and I invite you to ask for clarification about my methods at any time.

  • Honesty   Honesty means that I’ll regularly reflect back my understanding of what you’ve said, giving you the opportunity to clarify and elaborate as needed. I’ll always be honest about my perspective on our work together, and I encourage you to do the same.

  • Human Connection   On a foundational level, sessions are about connecting person to person, and relationships of any kind require mutual respect. I uphold warmth, kindness, and gentleness, adapting to you and your day to discover together what priorities arise.

  • Inclusivity  My clients come from around the world; they have many different backgrounds and a multitude of life experiences. I embrace the rich tapestry of human diversity and will honor your needs and values.
